Cascade users are given specific access and permissions to keep their pages and files up to date.

Gaining access to Cascade

Access to Cascade means you have the ability to change the University's public website.  As this is a risky and important task, there are several steps involved in being approved for Cascade access:

  • Make sure your ITS account application is in order (see below)
  • Let us know what specific sections of the site(s) you'll be editing
  • Complete our Cascade training

ITS account set-up

The Marketing & Communications Department (MarCom) relies on ITS to add and remove accounts in Cascade. So, Cascade access begins with the ITS account application process.

1. ITS Employee Account Application Process

To get Cascade access, you must follow the ITS Employee Account Application Process. This includes submitting an Account Application form filled out as instructed below. (Note: the Account Application form is used for other purposes besides Cascade access.) An authorized supervisor must sign and submit the form to ITS according to their process.

1a. If you already have an account with ITS

If you have your TitanPass credentials but not Cascade access, you need to use the same application form and select "Change to Account," (shown below) then continue to step 2 below.

Contact ITS if you have any questions about the Account Application form.

2. Filling out the Account Application form

Find the "Web Development" section (shown below) on page 2 of the form. Check "Content Management System"

Where it says, “Identify site for management”, please identify as specifically as you can the area you need to edit.  Ideally,  provide the exact URL path / Web address. Examples:

  • If your supervisor wants to give you access to the entire College of Business Administration website, put in:
  • If you only need access to the undergraduate Accounting section, put in:

Cascade is simple to use in some ways, but there are also many ways to get confused. Access will not be granted before training. You can start training concurrently with submitting your IT Account Application.

  • For basic content updates (text changes), you can complete a video and quiz.  The video is about 90 minutes and the quiz is closely linked to it. We recommend looking over the quiz before watching the video.
Here is the link to the training video and a quiz
    1. Watch the video
    2. Take the quiz
    3. And last, let know when the training is complete
  • Training may be in person, individually or in groups, contact to schedule help.

Cascade permissions

Only after ITS has approved your account application and training is complete, can Marketing & Communications set up your specific area access and permissions to make changes.

All users are given the minimum Cascade access and abilities needed to update the website content they are responsible for.

Most Cascade users should only update existing pages – ask MarCom if you need something more.

The following activities carry additional complications or requirements, and so we ask that you work with MarCom before:

  • Adding pages to a site
  • Adding files to a site (such as images, PDF documents, etc.)
  • Moving, renaming, or deleting pages or files

Some of other complications you may not think of involve things like:

  • filename requirements and conventions,
  • site structure and navigation issues,
  • asset publish status,
  • orphaned files or pages, etc.

Again, MarCom is happy to help you with tasks beyond updating individual pages.  Please contact us to do things the right way, and avoid causing problems that will take time to clean up or even make our site unusable.
