Gain a deeper understanding of the Catholic traditions on which University of Detroit Mercy was founded with a certificate in Catholic Studies. Whatever your religious background, you can benefit from learning about the Catholic experience and its contribution to society.

Great Things At Detroit Mercy

• The Catholic Studies Program addresses six content areas: traditions of Catholic spirituality and theology, Christian social justice traditions, the Catholic imagination and the diversity of its expression, Christian perspectives on the human person and on human development, church history as it informs today’s church and society, and the meaning and importance of Vatican Council II.
• Our small class sizes mean your instructors get to know you and that you have plenty of opportunity to contribute to class discussions.
• All courses are taught by faculty members — not teaching assistants or graduate students.
• In the tradition of our Jesuit and Mercy sponsors, Detroit Mercy offers a well-rounded, liberal arts education. The Catholic Studies program will help you deepen your understanding of Catholicism and understand it in the context of a multicultural world.

Your Boundless Future

The Catholic Studies program develops a thoughtful appreciation of the living tradition of the Catholic faith. It is a great complement to any program of study at the University.

“As a student at University of Detroit Mercy, I was blessed to have the opportunity to not only receive an education that has served me well in my career, but to also explore my Catholic faith through the Catholic Studies program. The program challenged me to develop a more personal understanding of my faith through prayer and community outreach in the City of Detroit.”
